Philips Hue Smart Bulbs Will Stop Working With Nest Products Soon

Delta Online News

Philips Hue Wi-Fi controlled smart lightbulbs were among the first to get Nest integration. Starting November 17, all existing Works with Nest integrations will be discontinued.

The change, which is part of Google’s slow integration of Nest into the Google Home ecosystem, will only be temporary.

A New Home for Your Nest

This is the latest in Google’s efforts to consolidate its smart home appliances into a singular Google Nest brand. All current Nest users will need to link their Philips Hue account to the Google Home App to access any current features.

The news was announced to Nest users via a message in the Philips Hue app:

Google is transitioning its ‘Works with Nest’ programme to the ‘Works with Hey Google’ programme. Related to this, Philips Hue integration with Nest Thermostat, Nest Cam and Nest Protect will be discontinued from November 17, 2020.This will only be temporary, as Google is building existing Works with Nest features into the Google Home app. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Google already announced that no new Works with Nest integrations could be made after August 31, 2019, but any existing integrations would remain valid. Next week’s change seems to invalidate any previous statement, and Nest users will need to migrate regardless of how old their account is.

The switchover affects Nest Thermostat, Nest Cam, and Nest Protect models, regardless of how old the Nest account is. Google claims that much of the functionality Philips Hue users enjoy will migrate to the Google Home app in time, though there’s no concrete list of features to expect.

The switchover from Works with Nest to the less catchy Works with Hey Google is likely being hurried along by new plans for Google Home app integrations and the arrival of the $ 129 Nest Thermostat.
