Memory giant Kingston Technology is launching a handful of new storage solutions at CES 2021, covering SSDs, flash storage, and more. As one of the most recognizable names in memory products worldwide, any new Kingston product launch is always an intriguing moment.
Kingston Reveals New SSD and NVMe Storage Options
Kingston has been riding high in the world of storage for the past few years. Despite its position at the top of the market, Kingston was yet to launch a PCIe 4.0 SSD option, upgrading its storage options to the latest standard.
That is, until now.
Kingston is launching Ghost Tree, a High-Performance Gen 4.0 drive that will target phenomenally fast data transfer rates, delivering up to 7000MB/s read and write.
Leveraging PCIe 4.0 will enable the 1TB to 4TB drives to transfer data at exceptionally high throughput for both read and write processes. The combination will make any Kingston Ghost Tree drive a powerful option for creators, developers, and more.
As well as Ghost Tree, Kingston revealed the NV Series, a PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD with capacities up to 2TB. While these drives won’t be as fast as Ghost Tree, they’ll still provide top-level performance.
Then there is the Kingston XS2000, a brand-new USB 3.2 Gen 2 external storage drive that will launch with between 500GB to 2TB capacity. The USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface allows for data transfers up to 2000MB/s, so these external drives will make excellent portable backup drives for when you’re on the move or even for regular desktop backups.
Finally, Kingston is launching the DC1500M, an NVMe SSD designed to support a wide-range of data-center and server-based functionality.
Louis Kaneshiro, director of the SSD product engineering division, Kingston, said:
Now that CES is moving online, we have a greater opportunity to connect with new and existing tech communities around the world. CES is the best time to share what’s next from Kingston and we are very excited to launch our first Gen 4.0 NVMe SSDs as well as an external drive this year. When it comes to NVMe, we will have all customer segments covered from consumers to prosumers to data centers.
Kingston Building for the Future
With Kingston stepping up into the world of PCIe 4.0 storage, they’re set to increase their market share.
While PCIe 4.0 support remains limited among consumer hardware (Intel is only just introducing support for the new standard), that situation will change throughout 2021 and into the none-too-distant future. As is, the latest AMD motherboard chipsets and processors already support PCIe 4.0, so they’re gaining a march with those users.
At the time of writing, the prospective prices for Kingston’s fast new storage are unavailable, though we have reached out to Kingston for more information.
