YouTube TV has isn’t necessarily the most popular streaming service available. In an effort to change this, YouTube has now launched a new add-on package for YouTube TV on top of existing subscriptions. The new add-on offers users 4K content and offline downloads.
YouTube TV Launches New 4K Plus Package
In a blog post, YouTube announced that YouTube TV has a new add-on package available, on top of existing subscriptions. The new add-on package, called 4K Plus offers viewers both premium 4K playback and offline downloads.
YouTube TV’s new 4K Plus add-on package is available from June 28 after being previewed earlier in the year, and costs an additional $ 19.99 per month, on top of the standard $ 64.99 YouTube TV subscription. YouTube is currently offering a one-month free trial of the new package, but with a total cost of around $ 85, YouTube TV could end up as a pretty pricey subscription.
What Does YouTube TV 4K Plus Offer?
With the package, 4K content is available on YouTube TV for the first time. In the highlight feature of the new package, viewers with a 4K enabled TV or streaming device, can enjoy watching YouTube TV content in 4K resolution.

4K Plus gives viewers access to major sports events in 4K, on-demand content from networks such as FX, Discovery, and Tastemade, and live content from networks like NBC and ESPN. Live content in 4K will roll out later this year to the package, but it seems as though YouTube TV is trying to replace your cable provider.
However, it’s worth noting that with the exception of some major sporting events and special content, there’s not much content broadcasted in 4K. As a result, it’s likely that there won’t be much live or on-demand content from the networks in 4K to warrant the extra package cost.
Another key feature with 4K Plus is the ability to download content for offline viewing. Viewers with the add-on package can download DVR recordings through YouTube TV to a phone or tablet with the app to take on-the-go. This feature isn’t currently offered by any other TV streaming service, so YouTube has taken the lead here.
Finally, viewers with the 4K Plus add-on package receive unlimited simultaneous streams for any devices on their home Wi-Fi. This replaces the three simultaneous streams from the standard YouTube TV subscription, so more people can watch content at home.
YouTube TV Is Aiming For the Top
With the 4K Plus add-on package introducing new features to YouTube TV, it seems that the streaming service is aiming for the top. Offering features that competitor streaming services don’t is one way to get there, but for a price increase of around 30 percent, YouTube might not get many viewers to sign-up.
