Google Go is now available to download around the world. Google’s lightweight search app has previously only been available to certain users in certain countries, but Google is now inviting everyone to start using this lightweight alternative to the Google app.
What Is Google Go?
In 2017, Google Launched Google Go. The lightweight app arrived as part of a suite of apps designed to appeal to users in emerging markets. The overall vision of Android Go was (and still is) to cater to “the next billion users”.
Google Go is a lightweight app designed to “access information, both online and in the world around you”. Google Go weighs in at just 7MB (therefore using less storage on your device) and keeps on working even when you have an unreliable connection.
What Does Google Go Do?
Since launch, Google Go has only been available in a few countries and on Android Go handsets. But now, as announced in this post on The Keyword, Google Go is available to download from the Play Store worldwide.
Google Go is now accessible to all Android users (using Lollipop or later) around the world. It’s Google realizing that even people with the latest and greatest smartphones, oodles of storage space, and super reliable internet connections may want to use Google Go.
Starting today, our lightweight search app #GoogleGo will be available globally on the @GooglePlay store. As demo'd at #io19, Lens in #GoogleGo can help translate and search the words you see around you, and even read them aloud.https://t.co/rAjR34KznM

Google Go is essentially a lightweight version of the standard Google app. It’s smaller, uses less RAM, and less mobile data. If you go offline it will also store your search queries until your internet connection is restored, letting you pick up where you left off.
While Google Go is less powerful than the standard Google app, you can still access Google Lens, allowing you to identify objects in the real world. As a bonus, Google Go can read websites out loud to you using a mix of AI and language processing.
