While the Surface Duo didn’t exactly wow the world, Microsoft hasn’t given up on it just yet. The company has recently confirmed a January 2021 update coming down the pipeline, and it’s set to give Surface Duo owners something to rejoice about.
What’s Included in the Surface Duo January 2021 Update?
All of the juicy details appeared on the Surface Duo update page on the official Microsoft Support website. These details are as follows (emphasis ours):
Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin – December 2020 and January 2021. Improves Surface Duo UI stability. Adds the ability to add a caller to conference calls in certain conditions. Improves audio quality when using speaker mode. Improves touch stability.
The stability updates may seem small-time, but it’s actually a huge step forward for the Surface Duo. If you cast your mind back to when the Surface Duo received mediocre release reviews, people thought the hardware was fine, but the software was a little buggy.
Now, with this update, the software giant is tackling one of the sorest spots people had with the Surface Duo. Given that the dual-screened device is headed for a worldwide release soon, it may just be the patch it needs to impress reviewers abroad.
A Small Update on the Surface
While the January 2021 update for the Surface Duo may seem meager, it just might be the shot in the arm that the device needs. We’ll see if the improved stability will be enough to win over the overseas audience.
If you remember, the Surface Duo was also dinged on release for its camera. Fortunately, that problem was tucked away back in the November update.
