Signal is slowly but surely beating WhatsApp in terms of new features. Lately, Signal has received a feature that allows users to send images in up to 4K quality. This means, your future photo shares won’t have reduced quality.
Signal Gets Support for 4K Images
As first spotted by Android Police, Signal’s latest beta version, which is version 5.11.0, allows users to choose photo quality before sharing a photo. With this feature, you can select whether you’d like to send your photo in standard quality or high-quality.
Choosing the high-quality option allows you to share your photo in up to 4K resolution. This way, you’re able to share those extremely crystal-clear images with your Signal contacts without any reduction in the quality.
How to Use Signal’s New 4K Image Support
A great thing about this new feature is that you don’t need to manually enable it. It comes turned on by default in the supported Signal version, and all you basically need to do is tap the image option while in a message thread.
If you aren’t sure how to go about doing this, the following will help you out:
- Open Signal beta on your Android device.
- Access the message thread where you’d like to share a high-quality photo.
- Tap the image option as you normally would.
- You now see two options on your screen. Tap the option that says High (Slower, more data) to share a photo in high quality.
- Choose the photo you’d like to share from your device.
- Your photo will be sent in 4K quality.
If you don’t wish to use this feature, simply select Standard after tapping the image icon. This way your photo will be sent in Signal’s standard quality.
How to Get Signal’s 4K Image Sharing Feature
As mentioned above, you need a certain version of the Signal app to be able to send photos in 4K quality.
Currently, the supported version is Signal beta v5.11.0. You’ll need to download the APK for this version, and then sideload it on your Android device. Then, it’s pretty simple to use the image option as explained above.
Share High-Quality Photos With Signal
Although WhatsApp allows you to share photos in high quality, that option is buried behind the documents feature. Signal brings that very option right in front of you and in a recognizable form so you know what you’re sharing.
It shouldn’t take Signal to bring this feature to stable releases, and so if you don’t want to use the beta version, wait a while to get access to the feature.
