You Can Now Store PS5 Games on External USB Drives

Delta Online News

Sony has made it easier for you to store more PS5 games with yourself. After the recent PS5 update, you can now store your PS5 games on compatible external USB drives. Sony has added several new features as well with this update to your PS5 console.

Move Your PS5 Games to an External USB Drive

On its PlayStation Blog, Sony notes that it has rolled out a feature to let PS5 users copy their games to external USB drives.

Sony describes this new feature in its own words as:

With this feature, you can now transfer your PS5 games to USB extended storage from your console’s internal storage. It’s a great way to extend the storage capabilities of your PS5 console, and you can seamlessly copy your PS5 games back to the console’s internal storage when you’re ready to play. It is faster to reinstall PS5 games from USB extended storage than to re-download or copy them from a disc.

Of course, there are limitations as to what you can do with the games stored on your external drives.

First, you can’t play your games off of an external drive. You must copy the game back to your console to play it. This is because the PS5 utilizes built-in high-speed SSDs to provide a faster gaming experience. That’s not possible with an external drive.

Second, not all USB drives are compatible with this feature. You must have one of the supported drives to be able to store PS5 games on it.

Cross-Generation Share Play and New Features in the PlayStation App

In addition to letting users store PS5 games on external drives, Sony has added a few new features as well as updated the existing features on the PS5.

Some of these changes are as follows.

Use Share Play on Both PS4 and PS5

Share Play on the PlayStation is now backward compatible, which means you can use Share Play on the PS5 with a friend who has a PS4, and vice versa. You can use this feature to let your friends see your games as well as control the games using a virtual controller.

More Features in the PlayStation App

Sony is going to update its PlayStation app for mobile phones with new features in the coming weeks.

With these new features, Sony’s PS5 console is becoming even more attractive and people might even ditch their other consoles to get this one. If you have a PS5 already, update it to see these changes for yourself.
