You Can Soon Make Microsoft Edge Look Fancy

Delta Online News

Microsoft Edge has had a lot of updates recently, from innovative features to additions that people expect from a modern-day browser. Now, Microsoft is adding the ability to change the accent color of Microsoft Edge, so you can customize it to suit your tastes better.

The New Accent Colors for Microsoft Edge

The accent update isn’t quite ready for release just yet, so you won’t find it in the main branch of Microsoft Edge. However, you can take a sneak peek by using either the Canary or Dev versions of Edge.

The accent update was first spotted by Windows Central. They noticed a new addition to Microsoft Edge’s flags, which you can see for yourself by typing edge://flags into the URL bar in Edge Dev or Canary.

Once there, you can find the flag called “Enable picker for color based themes” and enable it. Once you do, restart the browser, then access the themes section in the settings. You’ll find a selection of new colors to choose from.

Microsoft’s Bid to Catch Up With the Competition

Recently, Microsoft has released a mix of different kinds of updates for Edge. Some are cutting-edge which do something that no other browser does, and others are run-of-the-mill features you’d expect from any browser.

This is likely because Microsoft is pushing to make Edge a major competitor in the browser world. The company struck gold when Edge overtook Firefox in usage. Since then, Microsoft has strived to maintain its lead over Firefox and catch up to Chrome.

To do this, Microsoft first focused on bringing innovation, such as implementing a built-in price comparison and coupon-finding tool. However, recently, the company has been recently pushing updates that add the bare essentials for a modern-day browser.

This is likely because users will find it hard to adopt a browser that doesn’t come with the basics out of the box. You can have all the fancy features you want, but if someone can’t do what they’ve come to expect from every browser on the market, they’ll be quick to go back to their previous choice.

As such, it’s likely that we’ll see more of these “small but essential” updates coming from Microsoft in the future. After all, if Microsoft wants to take on Chrome, it has to do everything Chrome does and more.

Something Old, Something New for Microsoft Edge

While Microsoft has been hard at work making Edge the best it can be, not every update will be an exciting and innovative ride. However, Microsoft needs to tie up these loose ends and implement the essentials if it wants to become the top dog in browsers.

If you think Edge taking down Chrome is just a pipe dream, the reality may not be so far-fetched. There are plenty of reasons that make Edge a better productivity tool than Chrome, such as taskbar pinning.
